"I was very skeptical at first — I didn't think I'd like a storage unit that didn't have a drive built in. But after playing with it for just 10 minutes, I love it and would recommend it. I dare you to try to take it away from me!" (James van Eaton, MSDN Subscriptions)
The future of MSDN subscription disc content management
Disc Stakka is a content management solution that stores, protects, and manages your MSDN subscription discs, plus other 12 cm optical discs including data CDs, DVDs, music and game discs. Each Disc Stakka automated carousel holds up to 100 discs and connects to your computer via USB for power and data. You can stack units up to five high to create a tower that holds up to 500 discs without requiring additional cabling or desk space.
Imation and Microsoft have collaborated to create the MSDN-enabled Disc Stakka—the "must have" tool for any MSDN developer.
"Export to Disc Stakka" directly from the MSDN Index
The next time you look at the online MSDN subscription index, you'll notice that an "Export to Disc Stakka" icon has been added. This is part of the simple 4-step process to store your MSDN discs in Disc Stakka:
Search
your MSDN subscription index to select the discs you want to store
in Disc Stakka. - Click the Export to Disc Stakka icon from the MSDN index to capture details for those discs.
- Double-click the Import MSDN Content icon on your computer's desktop to transfer the disc details into Disc Stakka's database.
- Insert the MSDN discs into Disc Stakka.
The details stored in the database for each MSDN disc include the disc's name, disc number, release date, and keywords (the description printed on the disc's label).
- White Paper: How to use the MSDN-enabled Disc Stakka to protect and manage your MSDN discs (248 KB, PDF)
Once your discs are stored in Disc Stakka, you're ready to start taking advantage of this powerful disc and content management tool.
Access your MSDN discs "virtually online"
Disc
Stakka is managed using the OpdiTracker software, database, and search
engine. OpdiTracker is integrated with Windows Explorer, which means
you can browse the discs stored in your Disc Stakkas "virtually
online" in the same way as you browse folders and files stored
on your computer's drives.
You can also use OpdiTracker's powerful search engine to quickly locate MSDN discs by their name, disc number, release date, or keyword (e.g the description printed on the disc's label).
What benefits does this solution provide?
An MSDN-enabled Disc Stakka is the perfect tool for managing your MSDN discs and their content. When you spend less time managing your discs, you can focus on more important things. Benefits of this solution include the following:
- Fast access
It takes only a few seconds to locate any disc you want: regardless of whether that disc is stored in a Disc Stakka unit or checked out and sitting on someone's desk. - Powerful search engine
You can locate discs by searching for disc name, disc number, release date or keyword (that is, the description printed on each disc's label). These details are all captured automatically by the export function. - Automated disc tracking
When someone ejects a disc from Disc Stakka, you can capture their name in the OpdiTracker database so that you always know who has the disc. - Protect valuable discs
Your investment in your discs is protected by keeping them safe from dirt, UV, loss, theft, and improper handling. You can also password protect a Disc Stakka unit, and even an individual disc, to prevent access by unauthorized persons. - Scalable solution
Multiple Disc Stakka units can be connected using powered USB hubs so that you can manage over 500 Disc Stakkas—that's over 50,000 discs—all from a single computer! - Easy to use software
The intuitive OpdiTracker software is integrated with Windows Explorer and uses wizards to automate common tasks. It's so easy to use, you'll be storing and managing discs in no time!
